The north Atlantic island of Iceland sits atop a vast potential of geothermal energy - heat from within the Earth. It already supplies over fifty percent of the the nation's energy needs. Now researchers are attempting to tap even deeper sources. They have to overcome obstacles in the form of the enormous temperatures and pressures typical of the planet's interior.
